[19:14]<@BC_Programming> I was looking on eBay for a CRT TV
[19:14]<@Calum> Oh, my time machine worked!
[19:15]<@BC_Programming> good thing I didn't get one though since there is one in the shed that the people who used to live here left behind
[19:15]<@BC_Programming> lol
[19:19]<@BC_Programming> I want it for my NES/SNES/etc mostly. And by "want" I mean I just need it so that I can take screenshots to demonstrate how wrong people are when they talk about the games only being "authentic" when played on a CRT
[19:21]<@Calum> heh, I see
[19:27]<@BC_Programming> They constantly bring up the same images
[19:28]<@BC_Programming> a picture of FF6... in an emulator that is all blocky- and then another picture of FF6 that is blurry claiming the second is on a CRT. When in reality, it's on the same damned emulator with bilinear interpolation turned on
[19:28]<@BC_Programming> And that doesn't even address the fact that WHY THE HELL would I WANT it to be blurry?
[19:29]<@Calum> Well, it's just better that way
[19:29]<@BC_Programming> "more authentic"
[19:30]<@BC_Programming> "the game art was designed for CRT televisions, somehow they managed to totally design against both aperture grille as well as shadow mask technologies and the widely different convergence of all sorts of different CRT TVs"
[19:30]<@Calum> my face when I log onto a forum I use a few times a week and they've changed the forum software, the theme, the layout, and the homepage, and I can't find the actual forum any more. Y U DO DIS
[19:31]<@Calum> yeah, people always make stuff up to justify whatever their point of view is, it seems
[19:33]<@Calum> Ah, I see, they've actually broken one of the themes so it doesn't have a link to the forum, only to some stupid front page with nothing of any use on it
[19:33]<@BC_Programming> lol
[19:33]<@Calum> so now I have to use the eye-searingly terrible theme
[19:33]<@Calum> *wonders why they don't have as many active members as before*
[19:33]<@BC_Programming> is this CH? I've always just used the default there
[19:33]<@Calum> hah, no actually
[19:33]<@BC_Programming> which I think is like SMF default with like 5 things changed
[19:34]<@Calum> it's a car forum I visit semi-frequently, they recently (sort of recently) got bought out
[19:34]<@Calum> and since then it's been going downhill
[19:34]<@BC_Programming> my cousin seems to be collecting cars
[19:34]<@Calum> apparently they've decided that now is the time to ruin it completely
[19:35]<@Calum> but...now you can hastag things, whatever that is
[19:36]<@Calum> oh and they've covered the place in ads, superb, glad I pay a subscription for the forum, that seems worthwhile
[19:36]<@Calum> I don't think I've ever ragequit a forum before but it's now happening
[19:37]<@BC_Programming> His latest grab is a '62 Chrysler Saratoga HOW U FIND DIS
[19:37]<@Calum> pimpin'
[19:38]<@BC_Programming> If he ever says I have too many computers I'll have to remind him that I don't have to insure them...
[19:38]<@Calum> Hah, yeah
[19:39]<@Calum> Sometimes I do worry that, for example, my SSD cost almost as much as my car
[19:39]<@Calum> but then I remember I didn't spend much on my car
[19:39]<Quantos> LOL
[19:39]<Quantos> So you didn't get the PCIE intel 2TB one?
[19:40]<@Calum> and then I remember my insurance is way more than that, so somehow that's justified
[19:40]<@Calum> I got the 400GB Intel PCI-E one
[19:40]<Quantos> How is the PCIE?
[19:40]<@Calum> which I noticed has dropped in price massively in the last few weeks
[19:40]<@Calum> it's quite fast
[19:40]<Quantos> Is it actually any faster?
[19:40]<Quantos> LOL
[19:41]<@Calum> It depends how you're measuring it really
[19:41]<Quantos> You're not supposed to answer until AFTER I've asked...
[19:41]<Quantos> I'm actually unsure as to how to measure my SSD
[19:41]<@Calum> compared to a decently fast SATA 3 SSD...is it faster to boot? No, it's slower. Is it faster in benchmarks? Much. Is it faster in general use? I doubt anyone could tell the difference
[19:41]<Quantos> All I have to compare it to is SATA
[19:41]<@Calum> but, is it faster in the situations it's actually intended for? Yes, massively
[19:42]<Quantos> Yeah, I noticed that they are a bit slower than something shortstroked
[19:43]<@Calum> the thing is that these new PCi-E drives are designed to excel in high queue depth workloads. So say some database work, or running several VMs at once, that sort of thing
[19:43]<@BC_Programming> "I'm actually unsure as to how to measure my SSD" << use a ruler, duh
[19:43]<@Calum> obviously it's hugely fast at say extracting files from a zip, or installing programs, that sort of thing, but so is a "normal" SSD
[19:44]<Quantos> Hmm, it's smaller than the ruler in both directrions, that must be good
[19:44]<@Calum> The Intel drives are quite slow to boot, they released a firmware update which improved it but it's still noticeably slower than a SATA SSD. Doesn't bother me because I barely reboot
[19:45]<@BC_Programming> Intel drives being PCI-E I presume
[19:45]<Quantos> Yeah, I only reboot when there's kernel header updates or such
[19:45]<@Calum> Sorry, yeah, I mean just the Intel 750 - I said Intel to differentiate it from say the Samsung PCI-E drives
[19:45]<@BC_Programming> For some reason I thought you might have some weird IDE SATA drive like a crazy person
[19:45]<@Calum> which are faster to boot and faster in some areas than the Intel 750, but slower in others
[19:46]<@Calum> hah
[19:46]<Quantos> Are you calling my drive configurations crazy BC?
[19:47]<Quantos> Or just me?
[19:47]<@BC_Programming> Now now we've been over this. Nobody here is crazy. They just have different ideas about what is and is not reality
[19:47]<Quantos> LOL
[19:47]<@BC_Programming> speaking of crazy people, I was going to 'rebuild' my old AMD K6-2 system, like a nostalgia project
[19:47]<Quantos> I saw one, it's a squirrel standing on a branch with his arms in the air
[19:47]<@BC_Programming> I was like "I'm sure I can find the motherboard on ebay, that should be like 40 bucks"
[19:47]<Quantos> Saying 'Everybody calm down - we're all crazy - it's not a competition
[19:47]<@BC_Programming> I found it, Epoch MVP3G-M something or other
[19:48]<@BC_Programming> around $500, wtf
[19:48]<Quantos> Ouch
[19:48]<Quantos> How much extra gold is in the circuits?
[19:48]<@BC_Programming> and it wasn't just some crazy person listing it, there were a few sold listings at 450 or so a while ago
[19:48]<@Calum> I remember selling some oddball socket 370 board to some guy in Poland who was very eager to buy it, it sold for a lot more than I thought, but that was only like £50
[19:49]<@BC_Programming> yeah this is a Super Socket 7 Motherboard
[19:49]<@BC_Programming> apparently it was one of the best ones available, sort of wish I knew that
[19:49]<Quantos> Could've bought a few back in the day huh?
[19:49]<@Calum> Heh
[19:49]<@BC_Programming> Well more like I could have not tossed mine, I got it when it was already old :P
[19:50]<Quantos> Oh
[19:52]<@BC_Programming> Well, technically my stepdad tossed it... we were moving and my step-dad was grabbing stuff to take to the dump (I wasn't aware) and he asked "do you want to keep this?" and I said "no not really" which was a mistake since I did intend to keep it... he threw it out the window- second story.
[19:53]<@BC_Programming> second story as in it was the second floor of the building, not second story to imply there was a first story that I intended to tell
[20:00]<@BC_Programming> Well back to reports then
[21:28] * Calum (Calum@mib-1A0D3BF4.plus.com) Quit (Quit: )
[23:22]<+camerongray> That was fun
[23:22]<+camerongray> One of my friends comes to the pub, casually mentions that he has some point of sale equipment in the car. Brought receipt printer in, things got silly: https://twitter.com/camerongray1515/status/676542092605280256
[23:23]<+camerongray> Think the best was when we piped /dev/urandom to lpr and it locked up the machine but kept printing random data
